Dr Steven Watson

Dr Steven Watson is a dedicated Sports and Exercise Medicine Registrar with the Australasian College of Sport and Exercise Physicians, bringing a unique blend of medical, physiotherapy, and research expertise to the care of athletes and active individuals of all levels.

Dr Watson completed his Doctor of Medicine at the University of Queensland and undertook his junior doctor training at Gold Coast University Hospital. During this time, he completed two years in orthopaedic surgery and gained broad clinical experience across emergency medicine, rehabilitation, psychiatry, and general medicine.

Prior to studying medicine, Dr Watson worked as a physiotherapist while completing his PhD in exercise for bone health at Griffith University. This strong academic and clinical foundation underpins his evidence-based approach to injury management, performance optimisation, and long-term musculoskeletal health.

Dr Watson has extensive experience in elite and professional sport. He is currently working with the Dolphins NRL Club and Club Medical Officer for the Redcliffe Dolphins QRL. His previous appointments include roles with the Brisbane Broncos, Gold Coast Titans, Wynnum Manly Seagulls, Norths Devils, PGA Golf, Australian Baseball, and Brisbane International Tennis Tournament.

With qualifications including a PhD, Doctor of Medicine, Masters of Physiotherapy, and First Class Honours in Exercise Science, Dr Watson offers comprehensive expertise in the diagnosis and management of acute and chronic sports injuries, rehabilitation planning, load management, and return-to-play decision making. His background across orthopaedics, physiotherapy, and elite sport allows him to deliver personalised, athlete-centred care grounded in the latest research and clinical best practice.
